GFWC Marlborough Junior Woman's Club Celebrates "Make a Difference Day"

***************************

Thanks to the efforts of the Junior Membership of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts, the Marlborough Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metrowest received some hands-on help for a makeover.

Club members from Marlborough were joined by over 60 sister members from 12 clubs to celebrate Make a Difference Day on October 25, 2008 at their Annual Fall Conference, held at the Marlborough Boys and Girls Clubs of Metrowest . Junior Clubs donated paint, shelves, bean bag chairs, and a Lego table and then went to work painting, assembling centerpieces for the Boys and Girls Clubs upcoming fundraiser, and created press kits and stuffed envelopes for a mailing.

The Assabet Valley Area Family Network, housed in the same building, was the recipient of 225 books donated by GFWC clubs to support the Parent Child Home Program. Rosemary Schantz, Program coordinator of AVAFN, spoke at the conference about the program’s trained home visitors who visit families to help parents learn how to become their child’s first teacher.

Make a Difference Day, celebrated each year on the fourth Saturday in October, is the most encompassing national day of helping others—a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. GFWC Marlborough Junior Woman’s club members participate each year making a difference in their local communities.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer community service organizations, was founded in 1890 and is headquartered in Washington, DC. GFWC has more than 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and over a dozen countries.
