Before joining the Marlborough Junior Woman's Club, prospective members should consider their own duties and responsibilities to it. The mere fact of joining shows interest in its purpose and agreement with its aims. Below are the duties of a member of MJWC.

1. Pay dues promptly.

2. Be willing to serve in any capacity for which one is fitted.

3. Attend meetings regularly, not only when programs are appealing, but also when business is being transacted.

4. Learn the essentials of parliamentary procedure so as to be able to participate intelligently; be familiar with club bylaws and standing rules, duties of officers, and responsibilities of members.

5. Follow these rules when speaking:

1. Obtain the floor before speaking;

2. Stand while addressing the chair;

3. Speak only on questions before the assemblage;

4. Make clear motions, correctly expressed.

6. Vote when voting is called for.

7. Accept the result of a vote by cooperating with the decision of the majority; support all projects of the club, not merely those you prefer.

8. Yield the floor to calls of order and avoid any disturbance of the speaker.

9. Listen attentively to minutes, motions and discussions, and suggest additions or corrections when necessary.

10. Accept assignments; be trustworthy -- let nothing interfere with your "carrying through."

11. Be loyal to the officers, as they were elected by the majority to represent the club.

12. Avoid undue criticism. Offer constructive suggestions.

13. Express appreciation for the work of leaders, committee members and committees.

Hostesses and Refreshments

Every member of club is expected to help prepare, serve and clean up refreshments for one meeting each year. The names of hostesses will be printed in the newsletter each month. If a member cannot attend a meeting she is scheduled to hostess, she must find a replacement.
